Life is Precious!
|
In my last Newsletter, I mentioned that 'Life is Breath' ~ how important it is for us to breathe deeply and take in 'LIFE'. Today, I want to share with you, how precious this 'HUMAN BODY' is, that most people take for granted. Let’s look at the human body, which is an amazing piece of ‘machinery’ ~ more valuable than the most prestigious auto-mobile in the world! More precious than the biggest diamond you can find! Yet, most people walk around complaining and abusing this body. We all own one, and have one 'given FREE' of charge! All the organs within the body and how well they interact and how they work so well together, is miraculous. We take it for granted, that it will do the work, interact well, complete every cycle well and continue to do the job well, while we abuse it with the wrong types of food, alcohol, drugs, cigarettes as well as not having enough rest, not exercising. We also abuse it with negativity, such as anger, aggression, resentment, jealousy, blame, hurt and pain. While we walk around complaining and abusing life and our own bodies, the 'human body' continues to do the amazing job it is here to do! Do we ever stop and say ‘THANK YOU’? Do we ever stop and listen to the body? Do we ever wonder how it works so well, despite the crap we put in to it and the abuse we dish out day in day out? Let’s very briefly explore how this amazing machine works. If we look at the heart, liver, kidneys or the lungs, how well they work and interact as well as how amazingly they are positioned in the body, is all a part of this incredible life. Liver acts as a filter, which filters everything we eat, drink, inhale and touch. Yes, everything goes through the liver. Whether it is healthy or unhealthy for us liver will filter it. Good food or bad food, water or alcohol, drugs or chemicals, it will filter without a complain. Do we take care of it and give it the rest and the attention it needs? The heart pumps blood around the body without missing a beat, whether we are happy, sad, angry or abusive, the heart continues to pump blood through the arteries with oxygen and nutrients to nourish the cells within the body. The lungs continues to take in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide. It works without a complain whether you breathe in oxygen rich air, or poisoned cigarette smoke or inhale chemicals / drugs, it does the job. The kidneys filter electrolytes and balances what is needed for the body and maintain blood/fluid volumes as required. The digestive system, process the food we eat and eliminate what is not needed. The brain works over time, thinking and experiencing, retaining information, knowledge. The skin protects us from dust, germs etc. It all happens within our human body, whether we are aware of it or not. The body continues to maintain health despite how we treat it. Do we ever think, how can I reduce the work load of the liver, kidneys, heart or the lungs? How we can protect them and lessen the work it has to do? Do we expect these to function without any care or maintenance? Do we ever think what will I do, if something fails or crashes due to lack of care and attention? Some people will say 'yes, we do have check-ups from time to time, to ensure our bodies function well'. I think most people wait till something goes wrong, to have a check up.. but very seldom, before that. Yet, we all make sure that, we service our cars, before it breaks down. We get a pink slip check before registration of the car is due. We get regular minor services and yearly major services, beofre the car breaks down. We don't wait till it breaks down and get it towed to a mechanic. It may happen sometimes unexpectedly. Yet, most of the time, we take it to a mechanic, before the car breaks down. If we have a crash tomorrow, and the car is written off .. most people can afford to buy another car. Something that we can replace (a car) we take care of it so well, yet, something that is irreplaceable (our human body) we take very little care. Take care of your body, like you care for your car - regular check ups (pink slip checks) yearly major tests (major service), eat healthy nourishing food / drinks (put the right fuel) don't let others push you around (drive carefully) .. and drive it all the way to your ultimate destination! Think about this. If you had a heart attack tomorrow, and you couldn’t survive, would your family be able to replace you within a few weeks or even months or years or for the rest of their lives? The answer is NO. No matter where you are in life, who you are, you are not replaceable for your family. Yes, your work place will be able to fill your position within a few weeks, to get someone to do what you did. No matter who you were in the company, unless it was your own company. Most people don’t see the value of health. People are aware that they need to take care of themselves. Yet, they are too busy and everything else takes priority. Majority of people are spending long hours at work. They spend best part of their lives at work, and very little time at home with family. Most people think that they live forever and that they will spend time with family after they retire. When people finally retire, to spend time with their families, and gradually slow down they start to feel the aches and pains and have check ups with doctors and get diagnosed some illness or disease that the doctors have no cure for and they give you a few months to live. I have seen this happen to many people. When you know how your body works and how important it is for you to take care of your body and maintain good health through out life, so that when you can retire you can still enjoy your time with your children and grandchildren. LIFE HAPPENS NOW!!.. not after you retire. We need to balance all areas of our lives. Not just one area of life. Balancing your life in all areas will make you enjoy life to the fullest! When you know how to take control of your life, you will learn to value your life and know, what it is that you really want to do RIGHT NOW in your life. Your exercise for this month Today, I like you to write in your ‘MY LIFE’ Journal – Answer these questions – you need to sit in a quiet place, by yourself and just go within – focus on you. Look at yourself – write as much as you possibly can. Not just one sentence answers. Explore your feelings. Get to the answers from DEEP within you! 1) How is my health? (are you carrying extra weight? Are you on any medications? Are you getting tired easily? Are you feeling unwell?) 2) How do I treat my body? (Do you 'put' in to your body proper nourishment, water and give it adequate rest, exercises?) 3) What is my body telling me? (what ailments do you suffer from? - listen to your body!) 4) How can I treat my 'body' better? (take some actions today to look after your health for the body) 5) If you are over the age of 40yrs, you should have these ~ heart check, bowel check, bone density, full blood tests, Stomach check, brain check - (don't wait till something happens) ..
